Balancing Business: A Lesson from the Yoga Mat
As I settled into the heated yoga room, ready to sweat out on my Sunday morning, the yoga instructor walked in and began class. She started by explaining the poses we’d be practicing, but what she said next resonated with me far more profoundly.
I want to share it here because it’s a powerful reminder of what truly matters in business, especially for small business owners.
“It’s been a chaotic time for me, particularly with my family. I just sent out the newsletter today—the first one in two months—and that’s okay. I needed to be there for my family. Let’s be honest. They are our core. If our family is good, we are good, and it only helps our business.”
What struck me was how unapologetic she was. She made it clear that her yoga studio—and we, her students—were secondary to ensuring her family's well-being.
As I began my yoga practice that day, I gained even more respect for someone who prioritized her family above all else, demonstrating that business could wait. It was a powerful lesson in maintaining perspective and balance in life and work.
